Premier League 2014-15 Predictions

The Premier League is as unpredictable as it can get. Every time a new season starts, its time for analysts to make bold predictions that they will regret later as the season comes to a close. Last year I predicted Liverpool to finish 6th, City to win the league, Manchester United to actually finish in the top 4, and Sunderland to go down. I'm quite glad I got the first prediction wrong, gutted that I got the second one right, and ecstatic that I got the third one wrong. I'll try to take a crack at it once again. Lets see how this goes come the end of the year.

Liverpool won't finish in the top 4

Can Liverpool cope with the loss of Suarez?
Not only has Liverpool lost Luis Saurez, they also have to focus on the UEFA Champions League. There are also several pieces added to a squad that exceeded everyone's expectations last year. The business that Brendan Rodgers has done so far is quite impressive since Liverpool certainly lacked depth in their squad last season. The one thing Liverpool fans dreaded last year was to lose a key player to injury because there really weren't any solid backup options to help the squad. The added depth is really nice, but the added fixtures, the loss of the league's best player last year in Suarez, and the fact that the the league will be even more competitive this year will make it quite hard for Liverpool to crack into the top 4. A 5th or 6th place with a nice run in any of the cup competitions would be a more realistic outlook for this season.

Manchester United will be better, but won't finish in the top 4

Can LVG help United become a force yet again?
The hiring of Louis Van Gaal (LVG) is a really nice signing for United. For one, his tactics have worked for him in the past with Bayern Munich, AFC Ajax and the Netherlands national football team and he is a really good tactician who loves to take the risk of having 3 defenders and 5 midfielders rather than having 4 in the back. However, if I was a United fan, I would be quite concerned about the lack of transfer activity this summer. While its easy to blame David Moyes for the disaster that was last season, its quite easy to forget that the lack of quality in the squad didn't help either. If Van Persie succumbs to an injury or if Rooney does not live up to his expectations, I really can't see how United can sustain a challenge to get into the top 4 once again or even have slight hope for title ambitions. A team that fields Welback, Anderson, Cleverly, Smalling and Young don't look like title contenders in my eyes. Unless United acquire 2 or 3 solid midfielders and a defender, I cannot see them crack into the top 4. They will be better than last year, but not as great as people seem to think based on a few meaningless friendly tournament performances last week.

Arsenal will be title contenders till January

Can Arsenal exceed last season's success?
Hasn't this happened for about 5 years in a row now? They start off boasting how great their team is, call for Wenger's head for not spending a lot during the transfer window (at least that hasn't happened this year), have a great run of results till the start of January, start losing their key players to injury, have a humiliating loss to either City, United or Liverpool, people start calling for Wenger's head again, and then fight to finish 4th place against Totthenam and then feel proud of how great their team is for finishing 4th place year after year. Yeah, I don't see that changing this season either. (Actually, I see them finishing 3rd).

Chelsea will be crowned Premier League Champions

Will Mourinho bring the title back to Chelsea?
Their team looks the most structured and the most complete to me. Mourinho saw that the team needed a solid striker, a replacement for Ashley Cole and a goalie that will keep Cech in check (pun intended). Their footballing might not be pretty, but it's effective. They are well structured, have depth, play good defense, have a manager who has been here before, and now have a striker that won't miss the net on a regular basis. Manchester City will come close, but for me, Chelsea seems like the safest bet to win it all.

My Bold Prediction: Totthenam will finish 4th place

Can Totthenam really finish 4th place?
The last time Spurs finished 4th place, Chelsea finished 5th but won the Champions league and stole the berth from Totthenam. But I had to make one bold prediction and this is it. The team is oozing with talent and for me, Mauricio Pochettino will help this squad realize their potential. Now that Andres Villas Boas has left and the confusion and disarray that always surrounds the Spurs doesn't seem evident, Pochettino might be able to deliver. Whether their owner, Daniel Levy, stays patient is the bigger question, or else my bold prediction will just come crashing down like the Spurs do each season...

My top 7 for the Premier League table:
Can Everton replicate last seasons success?

1) Chelsea
2) Manchester City
3) Arsenal
4) Totthenam Hotspur
5) Liverpool
6) Manchester United
7) Everton

My 3 teams to go down:

18) Southampton
Can Alan Pardew hold on to the Newcastle Job?
19) Crystal Palace
20) Burnley

First Manager to get sacked this season: Alan Pardew (Newcastle)

League's top Scorer: Kun Aguero

Player of the season: Edin Hazard

Regardless of how accurate or terrible these predictions are, one thing is guaranteed, its going to be another exciting and thrilling season this year in the Barclays Premier League. In fact, the lack of accurate predictions shows how unpredictable the league can be. Here's to another great season!
